One of my very favourite parts of Christmas is the decorations. I just love decorating my house, and especially my bedroom, and I tend to go a little wild!
I thought that fellow Christmas addicts out there would want to see what I've done to decorate my room and that fellow cheapskates out there would want to hear how I do it on a budget! Plus, I just love talking about Christmas, so it's all positive for me!
The first thing is of course: my tree. In my room I have a little tree (I think it's 3ft, but it may be 4). It's artificial and I've had it for years. When I was young, my parents bought my sister and I each our own tree, and I've kept mine (though she hasn't!). However, this year I did loose the stand, so I am using an amazon box with a hole in it to prop it up.
As for the decorations, I have been building them up slowly over the years. When I first got my tree, I stole some of the decorations off of our main tree to put on mine. I also bought some teeny little tiny baubles for it from Tesco. The lights were also from Tesco as one year they sold a string of 20 for only £4 or something like that. Then, 2 years ago I think it was, I splashed out and bought this whole set (also from Tesco) of matching baubles and beads and a star for £10. You know my feelings on themed trees, but I think that mine is so nice and busy and old that it doesn't really count. Even the bag which I keep it in during the year is filled with memories from where I first wrote the sticky notes on it when I could barely spell my own name!
I have this chalkboard bunting which I love, and I am using it this year as a bit of a countdown/advent calendar, which I change every morning to make sure that it's up to do date. The blue lights I've had for as long I can remember and I keep them up year round, and the gold chain was one the very first things that I purchased to decorate my room, and is so long, I never know what to do with it!
This year I have 5 strings of fairy lights in my room (one off my personal best sadly). I have an amazing string which I bought from Primark which I would actually really recommend. They were only £5 for 100 lights, and I was a little concerned about safety, but they're actually really good! They're really bright and quite warm colours. I then have another string of 100 multi-coloured lights from Tesco, and when they're added to the blue ones, the entire perimeter of my room is covered. I then have an amazing flashing string hanging down the side of my doorframe, but these are run on batteries, so I have to be careful to turn them off whenever I leave. The last string is of course the one on my tree!
Copying a Pinterest idea, years ago I decorated my door like a snowman, and the pieces come out again every year. I think that this is so easy and so effective, all you need is a bit of paper, some paint and some blu tack! And his name is Samuel by the way - pleased to make your acquaintance.
The last little bit of Christmas decoration that I do is to hang snowflakes from my ceiling. The numbers have decreased as the years go by from around 20 to the 12 that I now have hanging from my ceiling. I just used wool to hang them and paper to make them - so easy and fun for something that really makes your home feel like a winter wonderland!
So that is how I have decorated my bedroom for Christmas! I just love tacky homemade decorations, I think that is what makes it so special!
See you tomorrow!
