My thoughts on: AUTUMN

The view from my window this morning
Over the years, whenever I have heard the word autumn or see the trees begin to loose colour or see the shops getting coats and jumpers in, it would make me groan.
Because it means that summer is over.

It means back to school and clompy shoes and heavy coats and cold. Lots and lots of cold. And I am not much appreciative of these constant reminders that flip flops and shorts are long gone.

But this year, I have decided that I must embrace it for what it is. I must enjoy it, and feel grateful for all the beautiful things that come with autumn, like the fiery leaves on trees, the sunrises you get to see, hot chocolate, slippers, duffle coats(!) and so many other things that come with it that I don't fully appreciate.

I think that anyone can admit that the natural colours displayed in Autumn are the best at any time of the year, and even though they turn these colours because things are dying (which is obviously a sad thing) it is stunning and I think that most people (myself included) forget just to notice the amazing beauty that is displayed all around them at this time of year.

And Autumn doesn't have to mean heavy coats and horrible shoes, but more chances to shop! There are so many beautiful seasonal things in the shops that we can enjoy and look forward to wearing in Autumn.

I think that Autumn is also a great time for a fresh start. It's the new academic year, which probably means more to some people than others because it means back to school. Although most people dread this, I'm actually one of those oddballs that doesn't completely rue the day school was invented. Don't get me wrong though - I'd much rather be at home under the duvet!

The weather in autumn is quite variable I think. Sometimes it can be freezing, dreary and rainy, but sometimes it can be wonderful! At the moment in the UK, we are having a lovely September and beginning to October - much nicer than our entire summer holidays!

The tips of the trees are just beginning to turn red
I also have quite a few of happy memories to do with autumn. Even though this no longer happens, I still love to remember my grandparents coming up to pick the apples off the giant apple tree in our back garden before they all fell. I also have many happy memories of being in primary school and celebrating harvest by giving boxes of food to the elderly in the town.

And of course, one of the absolute BEST things about autumn is that it is the run up to Christmas!

So, this year I have decided to put all my negative feelings towards autumn and the cold away and to enjoy this beautiful time of year!
