One of the things that gives me so much joy in my life is my perpetual calendar.
It's very odd, I do apologise if you're a little confused at the moment.
I can't explain why it makes me so happy, I think that it is a number of things, and all add up together to make it a such a special possession of mine.
The first thing is the memory. I bought it while on holiday in Greece from a little shop inside the hotel. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was great, but in my family we have a strict 'sleep-on-it' policy, whereby you take a night to decide if you really want it and go back the next day. So I slept on it, and I went back and bought it.
I was so happy with it, I can't quite explain how excited I got every night when it came to time to change the blocks. It was almost like the finishing of one day and the start of the next, a real mark of change.
Still, whenever I look at it, I am reminded of the happy holiday and just the general excitement that this little souvenir brought me.
Another reason for why I love it (and this is really odd) is because I love the way it works. I love figuring out how their enough spaces on the blocks for all the numbers because you need: 0,0,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and that is 13 numbers when you only have 12 sides available! (If you can work out how they did it, let me know down below! It took me a while!)
Also with any calendar you can get, you enjoy it for a year and then you have to throw it out and get a new one. This is never ending. Seriously, it can go on forever.
I love the thought that one day, this little holiday purchase of mine could become a family heirloom or something. Maybe, in 100 years or something, my great great great granddaughter could be changing the blocks!
I literally cannot tell you in words how much I love the 30th April, 30th August and 30th December.
Because they are the magic dates. At the end of every month you get to change the month, but on every 4th month, you get to change the block completely! Switch it over with another block! To me, it is the true mark of changing seasons. I'm not to ashamed to admit that this gets me soooo excited! No one really understands why, least of all me!
But the main reason that I love it, I can't explain. I just do. It's unique and it is something that is mine and that I use every single day. Every night, after I put my book down, I check my alarm clock is on, I change the date on my perpetual calendar and I turn out the light. It's my routine, and it's just me.
So, if any of this made any sense to you whatsoever, and you don't think that I'm completely insane (or even if you do!) let me know down below (ooh, rhyming!) about any special objects you own, or things that make you happy!
See you soon!
