Movie Chats - Once Upon A Time
I have been wanting to write a movie chats post for a while now, and I have been watching many movies because of this. However, I'm a bit stuck because I just don't know what to start with.
So, for my very first movie chat, I'm going to bend the rules a little and actually not talk about a movie, but a television show: Once Upon A Time.
I apologise to my friends reading this because they are sick of hearing about it, as I have been talking of little else recently, but I need to find some way to let out all of my Once Upon A Time love.
I started watching it back in Christmas, when a friend suggested it to me. I then proceeded to watch the entire first series in a three days, or something crazy like that.
I then started to watch series 2, but as life became busy again, I found I wasn't really enjoying it, and just stopped.
However when the subject came up at a family dinner party, some friends said that I should definitely try to continue with it, and as I was bored over the Easter holidays with builders working away in my bedroom, I decided to pick it up again.
And I became completely addicted. It probably isn't right to admit that I watched 4 series in a week, and I'm not even slightly ashamed about it - if anything, I'm rather proud!
The basic concept is that every fairy tale you've ever known is plonked down in reality. An evil queen casts a curse to get her revenge on Snow White, and all of the fairy tale characters are sent to the small town of Storybrooke (geddit?) in reality where they no longer remember who they are. Then, Snow White and Prince Charming's daughter, Emma, who managed to escape the curse, comes back to the town after 28 years to break the curse, save her family, and return the happy endings.
As a friend described it, it is the best fairy tale fanfiction ever.
It is really quite addictive, and even if it isn't your thing, it can be quite absorbing. I would recommend it to people who like romance, magic, some very epic sword fights, and of course, fairy tales - but darker versions!
I am now completely up to date with it, and wait for the new episodes to come out once a week so that I can find out what happens next.
My favourite character in it is Rumplestiltskin. Although he is really a baddie, there are so many complex layers to him, and you end up feeling so much more sympathy for him than he deserves - and Robert Carlyle plays him absolutely amazingly! Plus, I ship Rumbelle to the ends of the earth!
I also love the character of Belle, she is kind of like my idol!
And me being me, I absolutely love all of the costumes, hair and makeup, its all incredible!
I really really recommend Once Upon a Time (had you noticed?) and implore you to just try the first episode - for me, please? Let me know if you do decide to give it a go, and tell me what you think!
See you soon!
And leave any movie/television requests for me!
