Re-doing my room

On my last post, I said that I had an interest in interior design, and this summer, I am planning to re-do my room, so I have been going a little bit ad with the planning and online window shopping in preparation for this grand event.

At the moment in my room I have 3 white walls, and one red wall. My curtains and bedspread are a matching white and red polka dot pattern, and I have a mishmash of the furniture that I've had since I was born and some second hand things. My carpet is navy, and we've had it for about 25 years. I did only redecorate my room about three years ago, and it isn't that I don't like my red and white anymore, it is just that I find the curtains and the bedspread quite restricting, and for someone who likes to change their room as much as I do, I would like to change it.

After much deliberation, I have decided to keep my white walls, because they're still in good condition and I still and to have a feature wall. You know that my favourite colour is yellow, so I have decided to paint my red wall into a really nice bright happy sunshine yellow. To a lot of people, this would seem absolutely ghastly and horrible, but this is my room, and it's about me, and what I want and the colour yellow just makes me so happy to look at and enjoy.

As for my bedspread and curtains, I really really like it when they match, and actually what I did with my current pair was buy two double duvet covers, and sew them into curtains. I wouldn't mind doing this again, as I enjoy sewing, and last time it was more my mother who did the work, and I would like to have a go at it. However, I feel that if I bought a bedspread and made it into curtains, I may just end up in the exact same situation that I am in currently, where I want to change my bedding, but I can't because it wouldn't match my curtains. So, I have been contemplating just getting a nice normal pair of white curtains that would match anything and then going a little bit mad on the bedding.
But, then I was in Primark and I saw this amazing pineapple bedding and these cute little pineapple cushions, and you may know that I have a bit of a pineapple obsession at the moment, so now I'm thinking about that....

When it comes to furniture, I have quite a lot. I need a lot of storage because I have a lot stuff, and a lot of hobbies and I seem to collect pretty much everything. Like I said before, most of the furniture that I have, I've had for as long as I can remember and I have been having a good little look on Ikea and Homebase, and on Homebase, I have found this really nice brand of bedroom furniture called Scandinavia. It is a pine wood, I think, and is just this gorgeous honey coloured wood that I think would look really really good with my yellow walls. For quite sometime now, I have wanted a dressing table, and in this range they have a really good sized one for a very good price. How can I resist? From this range I would like to buy a dressing table, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a drawer stack. Obviously, I won't be buying it all at once, because my funds aren't particularly high, so as far as furniture is concerned, it will probably be quite a long term project.

When it comes to my carpet, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Actually, it is like a super magic carpet. I cannot tell you how many things I have spilt on it and it has just absorbed it all. I don't know exactly what I want, or if I even want a new carpet, but in my mind I'm picturing a beige colour, because I think it will look really light and fresh, and go really well with the wood and yellow.

Lastly, I want to talk about knick-knacks. At the moment my walls are just covered in stuff, like photos, artwork and mementoes of memories. When I paint my room I don't want to have too much stuff on the walls. I still would like to be able to look at things and I don't want completely bare walls. I think that when I go to Ikea I'm going to buy loads of photo frames (wood effect to match the furniture!) and just have all these cute postcards that I bought in them saying nice things. I also just love knick knacks! I want fill my room with the most ridiculous useless amazing stuff ever!

So, anyway, those are my plans, and what I will spend my summer doing!

See you soon!
